Best way to creae DSF DSD audio files
« on: February 02, 2019, 09:07:07 PM »
Excuse my ignorance in this area but I am knew to DSD files and this site. I have just bought the Xivero File converter software to convert my flac files to DSF DSD152 files. I currently have a Cowon Plenue 1 DAP which I listen to Hi Res Flac files. I have used some software (HD Audio Solo Ultra) to upsample the flac files to 172/24 and have been pleased with the results. I have now bought the iBasso DX200 Hi-Res DAP and everything I read suggests using DSF DSD for better audio quality.

So to create the DSF DSD files should I either:

1. Rip my CD's again to Flac and then convert to DSF DSD152
2. Use my current Flac 172/24 files and convert to DSF DSD152

I am not sure whether it makes a difference but wanted to check.

Well, I don't know what kind of sample rate converter you used to upsample your FLAC files, but keep in mind that any resampling step degrades the audio quality.
Therefore,  I would recommend to rip the CDs to FLAC 44.1kHz / 16 Bit and in a second step to use XiSRC to convert these files either into DSD64 or DSD128 to get the best DSD quality.
